Who We Are
Journey of Hope Fellowship was founded in Pawling in 2010 by a group of Christian believers seeking a place to grow in their faith, to share one another's burdens, and to worship the Lord together.
Pastor Scott Shafer (MACE, Dallas Theological Seminary) has served the congregation of JoH since 2020.

What We Believe
Our Statement of Faith
The Scriptures
We believe that the Bible (consisting of the Old and New Testaments), as originally written, was verbally inspired by God. It therefore is inerrant in its content and is the complete revelation of God’s will for mankind. It is the final authority on all subjects addressed, and invariably true in all it affirms. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
The Trinity
We believe that there is only one living and true God, Creator and Sustainer of all things. In the unity of the Godhead there are three distinct persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), equal in every divine perfection. (Matthew 3:13-17; 1 Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7; Colossians 1:16-17)
God the Father
We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, sovereignty, wisdom, knowledge, power and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of humans; that he hears and answers prayers; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Matthew 7:7-12; John 5:17-26; Ephesians 1:3-6; 1 Timothy 1:17, 6:16)
God the Son, Jesus Christ
We believe in the Virgin Birth and absolute deity of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; that He, while distinct from the Father, has precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We also believe in His sinless life, His propitiation for our sins, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His intercession on behalf of believers, and His personal, visible return from heaven. He is fully God and fully man. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-2; 1 John 5:20; Luke 1:26-38; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
God the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person of the Trinity, equal with the Father and the Son; that He convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment; bears witness to the truth; is the agent of the new birth; and that he seals, sanctifies, guides, helps, and indwells all believers. (2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16-17; Romans 8:14-27)
Satan, Unbelievers, and Hell
We believe in the distinct personality of Satan; that he is the unholy ruler of this world, author of all powers of darkness and sin; and that he and all unbelievers are destined to judgment and eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. (Matthew 4:1-3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:10)
Salvation by Grace
We believe in salvation by grace alone, through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. We further believe that this salvation is founded in God’s sovereign election, was purchased by Christ through His blood on the cross, and is received by humans through faith, apart from any merit, works, or ritual.
We believe that all who receive Christ as their Saviour are born again, and are eternally secure in Christ, and will persevere in faith unto eternal life. (John 3:3-6; 1 Peter 1:23; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:24-25; 5:8; Ephesians 2:8-10; John 10:28-29; Romans 8:35-39)
The Church
We believe that the Church universal is a New Testament institution; established by Jesus Christ, Who is its sole Head; revealed through the holy Apostles; empowered and perpetuated by the Holy Spirit. The Church is Christ’s “body” for service and His “bride” for glory. We believe that his body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been baptized upon a credible confession of faith and have associated themselves for worship, for instruction, for evangelism and for service. (Matt. 16:18; Acts 1:8, 2:1-13, 41-47, 15:14; Romans 16:26; 1 Cor. 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:21; 5:23-33; 1 Thess. 4:13-18)
The Ordinances
We recognize two church ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The normative mode of baptism is the immersion of a believer in water and is properly called “Believer’s Baptism,” as it shows forth one’s faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour. Baptism does not confer salvation, but admits a person to the privileges of church membership. The Lord’s Supper is the communal commemoration of our Lord’s death until He comes and our continual fellowship with Him. Partaking of the Lord’s Supper should be preceded by careful self-examination and repentance. (Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Cor. 11:23-32)
The Return of Christ
We believe in, and anticipate, the bodily, personal, visible return of Jesus Christ to judge the nations and to establish His kingdom on earth. (Daniel 9:24; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 2 Thess. 2:1-9; Matt. 25:31-46; Rev. 2:7-10; Rev. 19:11-21)
The Resurrection
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, both the righteous and the unrighteous. Believers who have died in Christ will be raised at the coming of Jesus to earth. The unsaved dead will be raised at the close of the Millennial Kingdom and stand at the Great White Throne Judgment to receive their eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. (John 5:21-30; 1 Thess. 4:16; Rev. 7:9-17; 20:11-15)
Missions
We believe that every born-again Christian has the responsibility to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those whom we come in contact, as we are led by the Holy Spirit. Some believers are called of God to share the gospel with unbelievers in other countries. We also believe that local churches have a responsibility to God to support (both financially and in prayer) local and foreign missionaries. (Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47)
What We Do
Worship
We gather for worship every Sunday at 10AM at Mizzentop Day School. Our service typically runs about one hour, with singing (both traditional hymns and contemporary Christian worship songs) and a message from Pastor Scott.
Our weekly (Thursday evening) Bible study is open to all. We meet in various homes of our congregants. Currently we are studying Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby.
Bible Study
Since the pandemic, we have gathered for prayer virtually (via ZOOM) every Monday night. We bring our needs and concerns before the Lord, and also pray for His hand to move in our community and among our people.
Prayer
From time to time during the year, we will engage in special projects: In November we fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child (a ministry of Samaritan's Purse). During the summer we organize sporting events for youth and hold one or more outdoor worship services with a cookout.
